  1. Progress in the taxonomy of the prokaryotic and eukaryotic algae (based on the study of morphological features and on molecular methods); the diversity of specimens (morphotypes and genotypes)
  2. Study of the biodiversity, structure and life strategy with reference to ecological conditions and geographical/climate zones
  3. The response of cyanobacteria and algae to stress conditions. The issue of immunity to toxic substances (for instance - heavy metals) in environment
  4. The role of cyanobacteria and algae in the environment, their ecological significance and possible threats. Algae and cyanobacteria as a factor to determine the condition of water and of the environment
  5. The significance of cyanobacteria and algae for humans and economy
