About us

Wroclaw Semen Bank of Companion and Wild Animals was founded in 1997 by Professor Wojciech Niżański in Department of Reproduction at Wroclaw University of Environmental and Life Sciences.

Our Andrological and Endocrinological Laboratory is engaged with evaluation, storage, cryopreservation and distribution of semen from various species. We perform and deliver the results of animal semen evaluation and have many years’ experience in assessment of animal reproductive potential.

We are members of netework of semen banks of European Veterinary Society for Small Animal Reproduction. You can find us in Reprovets map.

Wroclaw Semen Bank of Companion and Wild Animals provides the breeder with:

  • Complete evaluation of dog semen and the dog semen quality certificate
  • Preparation of chilled doses from fresh semen
  • Cryopreservation of semen
  • Collection and preservation of epidydimal sperm even after death of animal
  • Frozen semen storage in our Semen Bank in liquid nitrogen at -196°C
  • Semen shipment
  • Artificial insemination services using non-invasive trans cervical technique using endoscopes for the intrauterine insemination and vaginal insemination.

The visit for semen chilling

  • Get an appointment
  • Address of destination, e-mail to vet, telephone, data of the breeder, number of insemination doses/straws, the type of the transport container (costs of shipment are always established individually)
  • Pedigree of the dog
  • Semen collection and evaluation
  • Chilling (about 3 hrs)
  • Documents preparation

The visit for semen cryopreservation

  • Get an appointment

  • Semen collection and evaluation
  • Blood collection – test for Brucellosis and Leptospirosis
  • Semen cryopreservation (procedure >5 hrs)

The steps of semen shipment

  • Information about semen shipment – at least 4 days before planned shipment
  • Address of destination, e-mail to vet, telephone, data of the breeder, number of insemination doses/straws, the type of the transport container
  • Costs of shipment are always established individually
  • Country requirements
  • Documents preparation
  • Container filling 24 hrs before shipment
  • Semen shipment and tracking

Export/import requirements

  • EUROPE: lack of the special requirements/ Brucellosis, Leptospirosis tests
  • USA: Brucellosis, Leptospirosis tests
  • AUSTRALIA: the most restricted country. Import permit, semen cryopreservation with Government Veterinarian, several vaccination, Brucellosis, Leptospirosis and Leichmania  tests
  • UK: import permit, Brucellosis, Leptospirosis tests
  • South Africa: import permit, health certificate of the dog signed by Government Veterinarian, Brucellosis, Leptospirosis tests

Containers for semen shipment

The sizes of shipping containers:

  • ST REPRO: diameter 32 cm, height 35 cm, weight of a full container 4.5 kg, dynamic endurance 4 days – for buying
  • MVE: diameter 35 cm, height 59 cm weight of a full 12 kg, dynamic endurance 14 days – for rent (deposit required)

Provided containers are Dry shippers, nonhazardous, not restricted acc. to IATA special Provision A152.
